Wednesday morning and afternoon. Finishing books with leather spines, marbled-paper covers and end papers. Bookbinding Laboratory, 29 red Via de' Velluti
Participants may bring books for consultation. They may also bind texts they choose, for instance, of their own calligraphy and/or their own poetry, rather than Elizabeth Barrett Browning's Sonnets or Julian of Norwich's Showing of Love, if their work is already prepared in suitable gatherings. The practicum will teach participants how books are assembled, thus also giving basic training in book restoration. During the stay it will be possible to stroll through Florentine streets and find botteghe carrying out fine book-binding, studying their skills. It will also be possible to buy in Florence exquisite marbled and printed papers, particularly from the Giannini family members, for use in book-binding, as well as booklets of gold leaf. A list of such stores and a map will be given to registrants.
